Travel can be for business, pleasure, adventure and travel can also mark milestones in our lives. I recall my adventurous parents celebrating a wedding anniversary with a road trip to Nashville!
A milestone for me recently occurred in March. I marked five years free of a long term health challenge. As a celebration I was treated to a trip to Kauai, Hawaii! Bob planned our adventure and I packed my suitcase. The trip itself was extravagant but knowing he wanted to celebrate this milestone with me and treated me to the trip meant a lot.
Grab your favorite tropical drink and enjoy a photographic journey of Kauai.
A sunset cruise on the NaPali Coast was a great way to start our vacation.
We decided a trip to Hawaii wasn’t complete without a Luau. The Luau was held on what was a cattle ranch. The ranch dates back to the 1890s. Kauai’s first mansion was designed by British architect, Mark Potter and built on the ranch in 1936. We enjoyed a drink on the massive veranda and returned for a second visit for lunch.

Bread pudding made with Taro bread and Hawaiian bread. It was delicious!
We continued to enjoy the gorgeous island of Kauai with a road trip to Waimea Falls. The landscapes are covered in lush plants and beautiful flowers.
Oh the chickens! They are all over the island but are calm and are not annoying in anyway. We learned that domestic chickens “flew their coops” during a hurricane in 1992. Lots of color and different sizes. It was especially fun watching babies follow their mothers.
Day trips, beach fun and a bike ride filled our days as we explored the island.
Remembering my bike experience in Spain I certainly took note of this warning!
Princeville and Hanalei Bay including a beautiful view of the taro fields.

Another day trip and yet another gorgeous part of this island. We drove to Waimea Canyon on a partly cloudy, partly sunny, partly rainy (you get the idea) kind of a day. As we ascended the mountain towards Waimea Canyon the sky became mostly sunny. The Koke Lodge was our last stop before driving back down the canyon.
With an average of 400 inches or rain a year the hiking trails were muddy and slippery. We went just a bit on the trail but were able to enjoy beautiful views at multiple outlooks.
Our last full day on the island was spent at Na’ Aina Kai Botanical Gardens a followed by a delicious dinner on the beach.
The Hawaiian state bird the Nene.
More photos because this island is a beautiful paradise!
