Melbourne, Australia - A City Down Under

The Melbourne skyline is a study in composition. It must be photographed thousands of times each day. My traveling companion and I walked an average of ten miles a day touring the city. I believe my average photo takes may have been in the hundreds!

The photos below are from a ferry ride to Williamstown, a Melbourne suburb at the mouth of the Yarra River.

Standing on the corner in Winslow? No, but....cool photo op in Williamstown, Australia!

Schools and libraries have always attracted my attention while traveling. During this trip I had the opportunity to visit two libraries. One was an Athenauen (http://www.melbourneathenaeum.org.au) and the second was a public library that included a cafe/bar.

A few thoughts about the people who we met along the way on this awesome Aussie adventure;
Each state, region, city, country I have explored has had its own vibe. The culture, history and especially the people combine to create a feeling that is distinguishable and apparent to those who wish to observe the beat of the area. The people we met on this adventure whether they were Aussies, Kiwis, tourists or visiting business professionals welcomed us with their warm and inviting personalities. From Emily, a young adult, who offered to walk us to the location we were searching for to a visiting professional who invited us to her apartment for lunch we appreciated the genuine and laid back attitude. Wit was quick and entertaining without offending anyone. When they encouraged us to come and visit again it was a sincere invitation - and who knows where my future journeys will take me.

A new friend making us Aaloo Paratha (a recipe from India) for lunch. It was delicious!

On our last evening my friend reminded us to look for the Southern Cross constellation. You guessed it-we were able to see it. If you look closely you will see it above us. (Photo credit; Elizabeth Watson)

My suitcase will not be put away since I have a trip to Ireland planned for May. I hope you will keep my travel blog link handy and continue to travel with me! See you in May!
