Sharing a sampling of graffiti in one Berlin neighborhood. Thanks to my friend, Jane, for the inspirational idea of a graffiti photo study. There is graffiti in all neighborhoods. It seems there is an unwritten rule because some areas are noticeably void of the art such as the exterior of the trams, the east side of the Berlin Wall, monuments and sidewalks. Only the west side of the remains of the Wall have graffiti because the east side had the death strip as a barrier. More information on the death strip can be found on this website - http://berlin-germany.ca/wall/deathstrip.html
The following website includes an interesting article about one of the graffiti artists.

Look closely this image was painted on three pieces all at different levels. When viewed at a good angle you can see the entire image. Another photo below.
I am going to blame you for not getting my household chores done. Reading your blog and checking out the websites you suggested are much more interesting.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea about the history behind all the graffiti and certainly didn't know Keith Haring was invited over there to add to it.
Wow, I am really getting an education. Thank you, teacher!
It's so interesting to see how much graffitti they have in Berlin...very similar to the USA. And some of it is so beautiful! Thank you for showcasing!
