Slubice, Poland

The weekend trip to Poland I had planned had to be canceled due to car rental problems. On June 24, 2014 I decided to take a train to Frankfurt-Oder on the Germany Poland border. Then I walked across the bridge to Slubice, Poland. Slubice was part of Germany until 1945 and was once known as Dammuorstadt. It is a small town and very welcoming. The 2003 film Distant Lights (http://www.thefilmjournal.com/issue10/distantlights.html) was filmed here.

White asparagus seems to be very popular. I see it at every market in Germany and now in Poland.

Looks like this man has a sense of humor. Look at the "make" of his cart.

Look what I spotted on my way to the Slubice Bazaar. If you remember from my previous posts you can find information on this website; http://www.juedischesfrankfurtvirtuell.de/en/en_21.php?stolp_css=001
Thanks again to my friend Pat for her research!

Beautiful linen I bought at the Bazaar - a little souvenir from Poland.

Free wi-fi at the city park!

Perhaps the car rental problem was a blessing in disguise. The bridge was closed for construction but pedestrians were allowed to cross.

Someday I hope to return to Poland and see more of the country. Spending a few hours in Slubice convinced me that I need to return!
