The Promise of Praha - Castle and Charles Bridge

The Prague Castle is thought to be founded around 880. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Considered the largest ancient medieval castle in the world it is over 70,000 square meters.

The scene above is from one of the streets leading to the castle.

Now a walk to Charles Bridge. Included are also some views of the river and views from both sides of the bridge.
The bridge which crosses the Vitava River served as the only connection between the castle and Old Town. It established a trade route between Eastern and Western Europe. Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV believed in numerology so the construction started at 5:31a.m. on 9 July 1357. This exact time formed a numerical bridge (1357 9, 7 5:31) and he believed it would give Charles Bridge strength.

The photo above is of one of the first buildings on the castle side of the bridge. I thought it was charming.

Photo above shows some of the locks of love. The photo below is a bride and groom there to get their photos taken.

  1. Glad to see you got a photo of the musicians. According to the Rick Steves episode on Prague that I watched they are the most famous of the street performers in Prague. His guide for his tour was the sister of the flute player!

  2. Living amidst such history and art would be such a different experience. We are missing that Old World connection here. Your photos really capture the essence of the city. What a treat to wake up and see these new entries and learn so much from your blog.
