Museums - The River Spree - Berlin Scenes

June 27, 2014
It is often stated that to know our current state and to plan for our future we must have an appreciation for our past. Touring Berlin has provided a glimpse into history. Through museum visits I explored events even further in our past. Museumsinsel (Museum Island) is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Museums on the island were built as museums and the first one was built starting in 1823.

A tour on the River Spree gave me the opportunity to photograph more architecture from a different view. Architecture is something I really enjoy if you have not already noticed from my photography.

Final photos in this post are from strolling through some areas that I had not yet explored. Enjoy!

This is a view of Museum Island from the boat tour. The photos below are more views from the boat.

I am sure everyone is getting tired of this same selfie pose. When you have to take your own photos there are not many options.

Later in the day I saw this same group taking a boat tour. I was told it was a protest regarding doctors.

Look closely at the steps in this photo. You can see a wide area that is different from the surrounding steps. This is where the Berlin Wall was before it was torn down.

After the boat tour I explored new neighborhoods. As I walked I came across Marienkirche (St. Mary's Church) which was built in 1292. You will also see photos from a Jewish cemetery and the tombstone of Moses Mendelssohn who was a German Jewish Philosopher.

The view of the church steeple built in 1292 and the TV Tower built in 1964 by the Socialist Unity Party as a symbol of strength and modernism provided a striking contrast. Time for a research project? See what you can discover about......Rache des Papstes (Pope's Revenge)!

This was posted in a construction area. It made me smile!

If you have been following my blog you are familiar with what is pictured above. You also know how to research the names on the markers. These markers serve as a way to remember victims in a very personal way.

I love it when I happen upon an outdoor market. This gal created the ring and earrings I purchased.

There were six children in this stroller. Talk about mega strollers! Wow!

I hope these children continue to work hard. A college education is almost free. There is a fee of 200 Euros (300 dollars) for each semester. This opportunity is open to everyone! There are some preparations for students from other countries. An excellent promise to their youth and the country's future!

Had to take a photo of this in honor of my car - aka Gypsy! This trip has given me the opportunity to feel a bit like a Gypsy. My adventures have been enjoyable and educational. Only a few days remain of MJ's Travel Adventure!

  2. You will have to explore all the artistic ways to use those pictures. A coffee table book perhaps.

  3. The architecture is just breathtaking! The cars are great. And the tidbit about college just makes me wish it was as encouraged here. I agree with Jane, you will need to make one big book with all of these pictures!
